Panama Canal
I have been working in the Panama Canal since its beggining and its not an easy job. To start with, it is really hard to work on this hot and humid climate. Many of us have died because of many diseases like Malaria and Yellow Fever. I have seen many of my friends die in front of my eyes because a train ran them over. I have seen people die because of landslides falling over them and crushing them. Many of us are afraid to work with dynamite since we have seen how others have either lost a limb or have been blown to pieces by the explosions. Houndreds of us have already died and we still have not finished the canal. I do not know how much i will be able to keep this up.
"School of Assassins"
The School of the Americas (SOA) is a combat training school for Latin American soldiers, located at Fort Benning, Georgia. I think the US should not be able to operate such an organization, because thanks to this school, wherever its graduates returned to, their countries have been left with trails of blood and suffering. For example, in 1981, 767 people in El Salvador were murdured by the US trained Atlacaltl battalion during a counterinsurgency operation. Hundreds of thousands of Latin Americans have been tortured, raped, assassinated, “disappeared,” massacred, and forced into refugee by those trained at the School of Assassins. This school has cost too many innocent lifes in different countries that it it makes me say that the US should not be able to have such a school.
"British Court Denies Bail to Assange"
After months of posting troves of classified American documents on the Internet, Julian Assange, founder of the Wikileaks Web site, was arrested. The twist in this story is that he was not arrested for posting in the internet classified documents, but for supposely having sexual encounters with two young Swedish girls. I think this article is an example of yellow journalism, because they could not arrest him for what he did, they charged him for a totally different crime, with little evidence, to be able to arrest him.

Educating the Negros
They had too many barriers in their paths to get educated, much schools didn’t want them because it will create a bad fame that affect the school so badly, they did not want black people with whites, they also thought that black people were impossible to educate, they definitely can’t learn, which it made their condition very difficult.
Thoreau Statement
I think that this statement refers that all governments need to heard the people voice and respect that, because is the citizens who decide who will get the power at the moment of select their government and for that reason they should be doing what the people who chose them want, what they are suppose to do.
The Way We Teach
Yes, because for too many years we have been learning facts that are not always true. In history we have created “heroes” of people that don’t, stories told by the victors, the conquerors, and we as students need to learn how to re-write these stories, in other words how to be historians, so we can develop our own interpretations, or maybe doing researches we can find other people’s interpretation, listen for stories that have not been told.
Immigrant Family
This story is about Victoria's family. They came from Mexico in a Van, They did it smuggling and paying 2,000.00 dollars for her and one of her daughters and 600.00 for her son. She talked about how difficult was at the beginning for them because her children were struggling with the English Language and the culture in general, especially at the school. Her daugther Maria also tells us how different was for her to attend school, how bad she felt when nobody cares about her, teacher ignored her knowing she didn't understand a word in English, how her oldest brother couldn't go to school because he had to help her father in his construction work. By the end, Victoria said that even they had to suffer a lot, life here was better than in Mexico, she had her kids at the school getting something that she couldn't got, an education.

Gunsmoke
Some of the stereotypes that I saw on this episode are people wearing cowboy's clothes, everyone having a gun, always drinking in a bar, and supposely everyone likes to kill people. We have always thought that the people from the West always wore "cowboy" clothe, and everyone had a gun on there belt and started to shoot. These are stereotypes that we also see in movies that have to do we the Old West and we will keep seeing it like that since we don't change they we see them.
Song of The Shirt
I think that the life of the farctory workers would be sad, miserable, and boring because the song describes women living in poverty, and hunger with nothing else to do but work. It also refers to the exploitation of these women and how they were treated unfairly.
Learning by Playing
Gaming could potentially be connected to learning, since by playing a game you attract the attention of many kids. For example, I hate to have to got to class everyday, open a book, read a chapter, and then answer question. To me this is pretty boring. I would prefer to learn the lesson by playing a game that will keep me interested, compared to a reading a book which is plain boring.
Blogging VS. Pen And Paper
To me it was a better experience to blog than to write things pen and paper. I learn more since it keeps me entertain while on the other hand having to open a book, read a chapter and answer questions seems really boring to me.
Favorite Blog Topic
My favorite blog topic for this quater was the one i had to play a little game called Oregon Trail. i like this one the most, because it was the one I had the most fun doing since I was able to play a minigame while learning how difficult it was for families to move West.
Lincoln's True Intentions
We all know who Abraham Lincoln was. He was the 16th president of the United States and is considered by many historians to have been the greatest American president. Thanks to him, slavery was ended, but was that his real intention? Lincoln's real intention was to preserve the Union. He thought that the Whites were superior to the Negros. So to preserve the Union, he needed to get rid of the slavery in the country.
Stereotypes
Have you ever wonder, why are there so many stereotypes in our society? To begin with, stereotypes are generalizations, or assumptions, that people make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image (which is often wrong) about what people in that group are like. I think there are so many since people often assume that you are like the rest. For example, I know lots of white people that when they hear somebody speak in spanish, they assume that they are Mexican. This might seem like a dumb thing, but there are many other stereotypes that give bad images to a specific group.
Lifestyle of Former Slaves
The Reconstruction had many effects on the people, but have you ever wonder what effects the Reconstruction had on slaves? Before the Reconstruction, slaves had to work all the time without a pay, but they had a place to live and had food to eat. After the Reconstruction, the slaves were free. Now they lived in their own houses, but still had to work all day to pay off all the debts for living on land of whites. Plus had to give a significant amount of whatever they grow on the land. After knowing all these, I think that the former slaves were better off before the Reconstruction.
Forgive or Not To Forgive
Many things happen during the Reconstruction. One of these many things was the anmesty granted to the South. This action was planned by Abraham Lincoln to try to maintain the country as one. I think that Lincoln did well by doing this because this way he was able to forgive all the wrongs the South did and was able to maintain the country as one.

The Importance of History
Have you ever heard "he who controls the past controls the future"? A lot of people don't care about their history. Others say that what happen in our past doesn't affect our future, but they are wrong. History is really important for all of us. Our view of history shapes the way we view our present. If we know more about our history, we can understand who we are and where we came from. Also by knowing more about our history, we can learn from and try to avoid the mistakes we once did in the past. So I would say that our knowledge about our past is really significant for our everyday lifes.

The Truth Behind The Lie
Who can tell the truth, the one that survived to write it, or the one that died and can't tell us? "History is the lie commonly agreed upon" said Voltaire. For many years, we have learned about history through the point of view of those who have survived to tell us, but how can you know that is the truth? Lets take Christopher Columbus as an example, was he really a hero like we have been told? How can we be sure about what really happened when neither Indians nor slaves could tell us about their point of view? So I think that history is the biggest lie we agreed upon, since we don't have the others' point of view.
